Aquaponics how to -building the most efficient system on earth!
Aquaponics is a science, which combines fish and green plants in harmony to produce a closed cycle, which needs almost no supervision and feeding. That’s the beauty of it. Aquaponics how to – the basics
The basic components of an aquaponics system are two large(or not) containers, one filled with water and fish, and the other with small pearls, which are used for Hydroponics. The water from the fish is transferred to the plants with a cheap pump, and it get’s back to the fish after filtration by the pearls and the plant’s root system. There are a couple of ways to make the system more efficient, but those are all discused in the webpage above.
Aquaponics Systems have several applications – they are used for production on organic vegetables and bio fuel. Both of those can be used successfully. One of the main complaints of a Hydroponics System is the ‘chemical’ taste of the fruits it produces. Aquaponics does not have that, because of the natural fertilizers the fish produce. The fish can also be used for food, but most people’s aim is to produce green plants.
One of the most important aspects of the system is the aeration of the water. That is probably the main reason for failure. That’s why you need to provide adequate aeration, which is usually very cheap.
The choice of fish is not that important. Catfish are most commonly used, but they can be expensive, depending on where you live. The main criteria for choosing a fish is their ability to spawn eggs in an enclosed space and their food preference. That’s why catfish are perfect candidates for aquaponics.
There are many aquaponics how-to manuals on the internet, but only a few of them mention anything new, which can be successfully used to build a really effective system, which does not require any supervision. It is also best to experiment and find what works best for you in your climate.
